The Map Layers Tab  provides a list of available map layers. The user is provided with check boxes for turning layers on or off. Information about each map layer is accessible via "info" links to the right of each layer name (Figure 1).

The Expand link at the top of the tab enables the user to expand the layer list to present the symbology and colors used in the map for different layers and their various "classes" (Figure 2). The Collapse link reduces the layer list to its original form. While the Expanded Layer List provides more information, the Collapsed Layer List is much shorter, and is easier for the user to browse and find layers.

After turning layers on or off, click the Update Map link to show the resulting map window. This allows the user to make several layer changes without having to wait for the map to update between each change.
